Lobbying is broadly defined as the attempt to persuade another person to accept one's position. This includes efforts to influence lawmakers by other legislators, constituents, or organized groups. Each land has different requirements for lobbyist registration. The person doing the lobbying is typically referred to equally the lobbyist and the person or entity providing bounty the chief. Each country has a different entity responsible for maintaining its lobbying records, such as registrations and expenditures.

As of Apr 2021, the Office of the Legislative Inspector General maintained Ohio's lobbying records.

Who must register?

According to Section 101.lxx(F) of Ohio state law, individuals who meet the following criteria must annals as a lobbyist:[1]

" Any individual, except a member of the general associates, a member of the staff of the general associates, the governor, lieutenant governor, attorney general, secretary of state, treasurer of state, or auditor of state, who is engaged during at least a portion of the individual's time to actively advocate as 1 of the individual'southward main purposes[2] "

Land definition of lobbying

Section Section 101.seventy(E) of Ohio land law defines lobbying equally:[1]

" To promote, advocate, or oppose the passage, modification, defeat, or executive approval or veto of any legislation by straight communication with any member of the full general associates, any member of the decision-making board, the governor, the director of whatever department listed in section 121.02 of the Revised Code, or any member of the staff of whatever public officer or employee listed in this division.[ii] "
