Can You Register Trailer In Ca That Hasn't Been Registered Before

  • #2

last time i registered a "home built trailer" all i had to exercise was accept it to dmv for inspection. they look at it, some closer than others. put the VIN sticker on and give y'all plates. if you go that route you will take to fill out a statement of facts. annotation: your story must be that you or someone in your immediate family congenital it, you is all-time. and you built it from bit parts acquired from yard sales over the years. if it looks onetime than tell them its never been registered because information technology has always been used on private property and at present you desire to put it on the street. if you tell them the truth or anything close to the truth you lot'll take problems. i used to make alot of trailers for people and thats what i was told.
besides nigh don't know it only a pinkish sideslip is non required for a trailer in CA. i would get 1 (extra fifteen$ i call up) makes resale easier.

no lieing involved. the AAA does Not bargain with this.

phone call the CHP and schedule an appt with their "trailer inspector." Y'all'll become an ID plate riveted on. Then go to the DMV for your 'pink slip' and registration.

or

its all a fucking conspiracy, I tell ya!

no demand for chp. if yous take it to chp you improve crawl effectually every nook and cranny and wait for vins, serial # manufacturing tags/ marks. they volition wait. notwithstanding i've never had a 50 year old, 300# woman from the dmv crawl around under a trailer and look.

have you brought a legit trailer in to cali from a 'no registration required' state? Perchance it was simply my attitude that immune me to non have to lie, to not have to crawl nether the trailer, and to goggle a 20-something CHP inspector while she took care of everything. then dorsum to DMV for a quickie visual "inspection", no pain in the ass - just a typical 21st century run-around-hassle, and I was skilful to go. Sometimes "attitude" matters when dealing with those dastardly evil govt people.

Maybe information technology was just my attitude that allowed me to not have to lie, to not have to crawl nether the trailer, and to goggle a twenty-something CHP inspector while she took care of everything. and so back to DMV for a quickie visual "inspection", no hurting in the ass - just a typical 21st century run-around-hassle, and I was good to go. Sometimes "mental attitude" matters when dealing with those dastardly evil govt people.

no i take not, still i accept built close to 100 trailers for people and only had one problem. the guy went to a spanish speaking dmv services identify and because he thought he was dealing with "his people" he permit them in on the fact that he didn't build it. human did he open a can of worms. i had to fill out a bunch of paperwork, provide receipts for parts etc.
if you brand an appt. at dmv, bring trailer with no identifying marks, or evidence information technology was ever vin'd. and fill out the course (argument of facts i think) that yous built information technology, you volition walk out with plates, and they volition put a fiol type sticker on the tounge with your vin

Very easy to do if the trailer has a VIN. If y'all do not want to go to the CHP, phone call a VIN verifier, information technology will toll you $50-$75 and they will requite you lot the DMV form and come up to your house or wherever. Fill up out a STATMENT OF FACTS sheet from the DMV explaining why you exercise not have the newspaper work, a vehicle registration sheet, and an application for title.

There'due south no rivet on vin number from the dmv. They just give yous a metal sticker that they affix to your trailer. I had one that was not home built merely did not take a vin. It took 15 minutes, merely in that location'due south no style around going to the dmv. I'yard pretty sure you don't need to get to chp for inspection on a trailer. That'south only for vehicles.

When CHP or DMV approves your trailer what are they looking for? Do they get into depth on boat weight and trailer brakes and clearance lights? I'm going thru the california regs and man there's a ton of stuff they require that I rarely see on anyones trailer :(

chp will be much more diligent in their inspection than dmv will be.

well you can practise a lien sale, in my neck of the woods nigh 50 bucks and xxx days, then you have to register it in your proper noun. or you can exercise what many practise.....remove all identifying marks, have information technology to DMV and tell them you lot homemade it. has to be you, not your dad or uncle. im certain the later involves breaking the law though.

do the lien sale. get somebody good to do it for you. i would go to a local tow yard, or a repair shop and ask effectually who they use.
